Meet the Team
The restaurant’s chef, Mamadou Lamine Sonko, aka Momo, received his cuisine diploma in 2015 and practices his culinary skills at an ecoresort in Kafountine. Abbie's three years in Peace Corps Mali from 1998 - 2001 taught her that you can only convince people whose way of life has been passed down since the beginning of humanity to make changes through cooperative action, not instruction. Before her current career as a linguist, she owned and operated her own gardening business for 12 years and collaborated with villages in Mali and Niger to build sustainable gardens and woodless construction housing since 1993.
We are inspired by people like Hamidou Tanjo Diabang, the Farm’s Advisor, who has created not only a successful ecolodge but a school and a hospital. He is at the forefront of the movement to implement sustainable living methods in his home town of Kafountine. Tanjo's son Ablaye, Farm Manager, currently manages his father's ecolodge. He learned permaculture methods during a six-week course last year at Gambia's premier eco resort and is currently studying at an institute in Ghana devoted to permaculture farming in Africa.
